The Creative Power of Text Layers

Today’s guest post comes from landscape and portrait photographer Gareth Rockliffe

I’ve been creating shows professionally ever since Photodex launched ProShow in 2002. Now, Producer is my go to software for all of my hybrid productions. It’s one powerful tool for creative’s.

Over time though, as the software has developed I realized I wasn’t utilizing all the advancements the software had made. I found myself looking for a way to liven up text in my shows, and then, after going through some training videos, I discovered the creative power of text layers!

The beautiful thing about text layers is that you can use all the effects that are available to layers such as tilt, perspective changes, blur and more…a pretty comprehensive list. You can also change the order of layers, so images can lie on top of your text, or behind. When you start playing with the possibilities, things get very exciting.

This is a great way to elevate the look and feel of your shows. If the opening titles are creative, then it sets the tone for the rest of the production for the viewer.

So I would suggest starting off with a very simple text layer effect and treat it like you would a regular layer, playing around with opacity, position and perspective. You can’t break anything, so having fun is the best way to be creative!

Here’s a short video to get you started!
