Today’s spotlighted show comes from fine art photographer Doug Sturgess. We recently met Doug at the Photoshop World conference in Las Vegas and fell in love with his work. Doug’s image, Floating Beauty, won the coveted Vincent Versace award for digital photography excellence.
Photographing the Biltmore Estate
The Biltmore Estate is an amazing property. I visited it in Asheville, North Carolina this April for three days, staying at the Inn on the Biltmore Estate property. If you’re a guest of the Inn, you can pretty much have free reign of most of the property 24/7. This was why I decided it was worth it as a photographer. Set high on acres of rolling hills, it’s a majestic paradise for a photographer. I got up at 5am ready to shoot but then decided to go back to bed when I saw the fog was so thick I could barely see out my window. However, the fog soon gave way to blue sky so I headed out & captured some of my favorite shots that morning. The trip was a tremendous success, adding over 70 images to my fine art portfolio.
Originally from Kansas City, I live in Atlanta now and work full time as a spine Physical Therapist. Photography is my true love. My interested peaked in the early 2000’s when digital photography was introduced. Over the years my skills have evolved and I couldn’t love photography any more. I’ve always thought the world looks more beautiful through the lens and it’s so exciting to see how an image matures from capture to the final edit.
In years past, I would spend $200 on making a photo album with actual prints. That became very costly…and heavy. I tried other slideshow software but was always disappointed at the limitations and rendering speeds. I was delighted when I found ProShow Producer. Most of the time I have the wizard put together the entire show and it comes out beautifully! I couldn’t ask for better software that produces an elegant and eye catching show. It’s so easy to share with friends on my home TV, my iphone, iPad or laptop. Photodex has made uploading copies to YouTube & Vimeo as easy as pressing a button. I always look forward to new transitions they come out with and really enjoy the free effects they send out periodically.
I was very honored to receive the Vincent Versace Award for Digital Photography Excellence at Photoshop World in Las Vegas last week. After returning home, I’m having fun editing the images I took in Las Vegas and can’t wait until I produce a slideshow highlighting the trip!
