Do you post photos of your family online? Chances are you do. We all do in some capacity and social media sites like Facebook make sharing snaps of the kids so easy. But are there risks associated with sharing your family’s photos online?

Photodex president and founder, Paul Schmidt, was interviewed about this topic in this article in the Austin American Statesman.

“It’s just not on enough people’s mind,” he said. “If you went up to 100 people and asked, most would say they haven’t really thought about it. They’re just putting together photos for their family; it doesn’t even occur to them that what they’re doing could be seen by anybody else.”

Paul suggests that if parents are concerned about sharing photos or videos online, to post in private folders or password protected folders that only family members have access to. Also stripping EXIF data from photos before posting them online can remove unwanted geolocation tags that are automatically added to most photos taken with a smart phone or camera. Staying up-to-date on the latest privacy settings on sites like Facebook is also a smart move.

What are your rules of thumb for sharing family photos and videos online? We’d love to hear from you in the comments below.

Professional Photographer Magazine Reviews ProShow Web

ProShow Web - Create and share video slideshows online

Professional Photographer magazine recently reviewed the all-new features available in ProShow Web. Dropbox support, timing control, photo captions and a new widescreen layout make ProShow Web an excellent tool for creating photo and video slideshows online.

I was impressed with the ProShow Web improvements and look forward to using the more user-friendly interface to create shows. The layout now takes full advantage of larger monitors, and the interface makes it very easy to do lots of customizations in short time.
