Celebrate World Photography Day

Tomorrow, August 19th, is World Photography Day – a day to celebrate photography and remember how special a photograph can be.

“Boulevard du Temple”, taken by Louis Daguerre in late 1838 or early 1839, was the first-ever photograph of a person. Can you spot the man standing in the street?

World Photography Day is celebrated on August 19th to commemorate the invention of the Daguerreotype, a photographic processes developed by Louis Daguerre. On January 9, 1839, The French Academy of Sciences announced the daguerreotype process. A few months later, on August 19, 1839, the French government announced the invention as a gift “Free to the World.”
