How to Update Your Channel to the New YouTube One Design

New YouTube One Channel

Do you use YouTube to market your photography or small business online? YouTube has rolled out a new look for channels called the ‘One Channel‘ that will be going live for everyone on June 5th, 2013. What does the update mean for you and how will it change the look of your channel? Read below to learn what’s new and how to update your channel successfully.

New Welcome Trailer Videos

All channels now have the option of including a welcome video that appears to people who are not subscribed to your channel. The video is meant to let non-subscribers know what your channel is all about and encourages them to subscribe. It’s a great way to introduce yourself to potential clients and provide a quick overview of your services.

Scalable Layout and Design

Your channel will now scale responsively to any screen resolution size and provides for a more unified look no matter what device is used to visit your channel. Phones, laptops, tablets, TVs, etc.. will all provide a better viewing experience for visitors.

New Channel Art

YouTube allows you to create a top banner graphic, called ‘channel art’ that you can design and upload for your channel. The banner is not-clickable but you can include a link to your website and several social media icons (up to 4) in the bottom right corner. These show up as overlays on top of your channel art and are handy to quickly get viewers to your other social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.

Add links to your site or social media sites on top of your channel art

This means any background images or artwork you had previously setup will be gone (yup, gone! no more background images for partner pages) and you’ll need to create new channel art in accordance with the guidelines set forth by YouTube. See the new channel art guidelines here to learn how to properly set up your channel’s banner graphic.

More Options for Arranging Content

The new One Channel layout gives you more control over how you present your videos and playlists. You can now curate content – your own or others’ – into highly visible sections for your fans to discover what to watch. With multiple layouts for videos and playlists, you can arrange your channel to best highlight your content.

Add sections to organize your videos.

For more information about all the changes to the new One Channel design and to start using it today, YouTube has set up an overview page explaining it all in detail.
